Napoleon Bonaparte document signed during the five year period in which he served as First Consul, boldly signed ''Bonaparte'' to lower right. The french government was ruled by a Consulate of three leaders from the period of 1799 to 1804, when Napoleon was promoted to Emperor. Partially printed document confers a rank upon a Military surgeon of the second battalion, 42nd demi-brigade of line infantry. Bonaparte's personal vignette as consul is printed to top of document, which is countersigned by Lazare Carnot, the French minister of war and ''Organizer of Victory'' of the French Revolution. Napoleon's seal is imprinted to lower left. Measures 14'' x 17.5''. Folds, toning and pin-sized hole to center. Very good condition.
