Rudyard Kipling signed 28 volume set: "The Collected Works of Rudyard Kipling," published by Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.: Garden City: 1941. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, the author signs "Rudyard Kipling" to the limitation page of volume I, "Plain Tales from the Hills." This Burwash edition, complete signed set is number 877 of 1,000 containing all of the prolific author's works. Each volume is bound in dark red boards with gilt lettering and ornate design. Burgundy endpapers bear Kipling's monogram. Slight wear to board edges and an occasional pencil notation to the fly-leaf. Small dent to the hinge exterior of volume I. Measuring 6.25" x 9", all 28 books are in near fine to fine condition and are housed in their original dustjackets, taupe colored with burgundy ink. Chipping and small tearing to dustjackets, in good to very good condition. This beautiful rare edition containing a body of work spanning a lifetime is named for Kipling's final home, his Burwash estate in East Sussex, England. The set, when finally printed, included Kipling's signature on an earlier printed limitation page.
