Robert Morris document signed from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 21 December 1795. An original signer of the Declaration of Independence, Morris here signs a promissory note to his partner in the North American Land Co., James Greenleaf. Note reads, ''Nine months after date, I promise to pay to the order of James Greenleaf Five Thousand dollars for value received.'' Morris boldly signs in black ink to bottom. Accompanied by notarized document measuring 8'' x 13'', dated 24 September 1796, acknowledging payment of this debt. Signed document measures 7'' x 2.75''. Toning and archival tape to verso. Very good condition overall.
