Cabinet card signed by Harriet Beecher Stowe, the 19th century author and abolitionist who penned ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'', which so inflamed public sentiment against slavery that Abraham Lincoln was reported to have said upon meeting her, ''So you're the little lady who started this great war.'' Stowe signs elegantly upon the card underneath her photo, ''Harriet Beecher Stowe''. 4.25'' x 6.5'' card was taken in 1894 in celebration of Stowe's 83rd birthday. With backstamp on verso by Hastings in Boston. Toning and dampstaining along edges. Very good. From the Helen Hayes estate.
