Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed from Europe during WWII. The general writes to his wife, Mamie, in a letter dated simply 14 October. It reads in part: ''Darling: I've had a phone call from home hq saying there's a big package there for me. I suspect it is a birthday box from you and I'll get it late this evening. I sent you a teletype yesterday. This note is just to say, on my birthday, that I love you and miss you - and look forward to the day when in peaceful surroundings, we need not part any more. Right now I want to run out to an outlying base - 40 miles away - and this must get in the mail at once. I'm in good health - and though I sometimes get tired, it is merely a natural result of intensive problems...Always your Ike''. Single page letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Near fine.
