General Daniel Sickles check signed, dated June 1886 for the amount of $110.00 to a J.S. de Palas, drawn from New York's "Bank of the Metropolis." Sickles, a Union General whose insubordination for disobeying orders at Gettysburg either caused or nearly cost the Union its victory there, depending upon the historical account. Sickles was also known for killing his wife's lover, the son of Francis Scott Key. 8.25" x 3" check is in very good condition with cancellation cuts just touching the top of his signature.
