Annie Oakley Young Buffalo sharpshooter show rifle, presented by Oakley and husband Frank Butler to ''R. Weekes'' who was a guest of the couple's at a 1904 shooting party, as is engraved to gun. Annie Oakley became famous when her future husband Frank Butler bet $100 that he could beat anyone in a shooting contest. He lost the bet to Annie, but won her heart. They set out performing their own act which included Annie shooting ashes off Frank's cigarette. They later joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West show in 1885. Rifle features a circular metallic plaque affixed to left side of butt handle. Plaque is topped with an eagle holding a shield and is engraved ''AO'' in script, as well as, ''The Annie Oakley Miniture [sic] Rifle / Society Prize / With High Admiration from Miss Annie Oakley & Mr Frank Butler / Presented to their Shropshire Shooting Party Guest / R. Weekes Esq / February 1904.'' The rifle is a Savage Model 1903 magazine fed rifle with a .22 caliber side action, pump action repeater. On the right side of the butt handle, a two-inch diameter, circular metallic plaque has been affixed, engraved, ''Savage Model 1903 / AO / Show Rifle / Young Buffalo / Annie Oakley''. Impressed on the end of the butt: ''Savage Model 1903 Trade Mark / Manufactured by the Savage Arms Co Utica, N.Y. U.S.A. / Makers of Rifles''. With a serial number ''42901'' engraved on the narrow strip of metal behind the trigger. Measures approximately 41'' in length. Thin wood slice at top of stock. Very good condition overall.
