Land grant signed ''James Monroe'' as President in black ink. Partially printed vellum document is dated 3 November 1818 and entitles one Lewis Taylor to a parcel of land described as, ''the South West quarter of Section Three in township Seven South, of range Eight West of the Lands directed to be sold at Vincennes by the Act of Congress, entitled 'An Act providing for the sale of Lands of the United States, in the Territory north west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of the Kentucky River...'' Countersigned by Josiah Meigs as Commissioner of the General Land Office and bears that office's seal. Measures 13.5'' x 8.25''. Toning and creasing, with foxing to verso and fading to handwritten portions except signature. Very good condition.
