Sixth-plate tintype of a young Union cavalry officer armed with his sword and holstered revolver. Soldier stands rigidly in full length standing view with his arms at his sides. His holstered revolver appears strapped to his waist under his left arm while his right arm grips the sword. Three chevrons adorn each coat sleeve, identifying his rank as Sergeant. Gilding and blue tinting to uniform. Housed in full case and fixed in an embellished brass mat and preserver, with a working latch. Some wear to exterior of case and fading to ruby interior padding. Darkening around edges of photo; very good condition.
