1843 McKenney & Hall print of On-Ge-Wae Indian Chief, from their ''History of the Indian Tribes of North America'', published in 1837-1844. McKenney and Hall commissioned artist Henry Inman to reproduce these portraits, based on the work of Charles Bird King. Although most of the original paintings by King were destroyed by a fire at the Smithsonian, McKenney had been fortuitously removing the portraits so that Inman could replicate them. 6.5'' x 10'' color print includes accompanying text from book on On-Ge-Wae Chief. Near fine.
