Mr. & Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt owned vase. Footed glass vase in early American style features two handles and a flared rim. Measures 4.5'' in height, with foot measuring 2.25'' in diameter and mouth almost 3''. Fine condition. With provenance from the Hammer Galleries auction of ''Miscellaneous Objects Belonging to the late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt'', held 12 November - 3 December 1951 in New York, lot 517, with corresponding applied Hammer label. Also accompanied by a copy of Eleanor Roosevelt's letter to Mr. Hammer dated 25 October 1951, reading in part, ''...The items which we have consigned to you for sale are all belongings which my husband and I had in our various houses over the years; but, as you know, in this present day one is not able to operate the large households which were part of a bygone era. Inasmuch as we no longer have our house in New York or the large one in Hyde Park, and because we have found it necessary to close down our summer home in Campobello, we have no room for these items. So it is my hope that others will be able to find enjoyment in the possession of these things which have given much enjoyment to my husband, myself and the members of my family...''
