Letter upon White House stationery, dated 1 October 1958, headlines, ''Presidential Citation in Appreciation of Service of Leonard Carmichael as a Member of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.'' Housed in a brown leather folder with the seal of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics stamped in gilt on front cover. The NACA was founded in 1915 to promote aeronautical research, but on this day the agency was dissolved and all assets transferred to the newly created National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Single-page document measures 8'' x 10''. Near fine.
