Collection of Darryl F. Zanuck's own custom-bound periodicals including 2 bound issues of "Life" magazine and one of "Fortune" magazine, featuring articles written on or by Zanuck himself, as well as bound internal correspondences from 20th Century Fox. Fascinating lot of all photo-illustrated periodicals comprises: (1) The 15 February 1937 issue of "Life" magazine containing the article, "The Private Life of Darryl Zanuck". Bound in green leather boards with gilt lettering and an applied red bloc with gilt lettering. Features red silk moire endpapers and all edges gilt. Measures 10.5" x 14". Runs 72pp. Overall wear to exterior, fading to front board on the top, bookseller sticker to rear free endpapers. Scattered foxing, else near fine; (2) "Fortune" magazine from December 1935 containing an article on Zanuck and his successful studio, 20th Century Fox. Runs 212pp. Bound in green leather boards with gilt lettering. All edges gilt. Measures 11.25" x 14". Separation to backstrip along front hinge, fading to front board along the top, and surface loss to exterior edges and corners, else near fine; (3) "Life" magazine from 5 April 1943 featuring an excerpt from Zanuck's book, "Tunis Expedition", an account of his service during WWII. Excerpt reads in part, "…the Nazis were bringing up heavy artillery…in a flash I saw flames and black smoke pour out of the third vehicle on the road behind us, I saw more bombs in the air on their way down and heard the horrible spit of machine-gun bullets that seemed to be tearing the earth apart right at our feet…" Issue is bound in black leather boards with gilt lettering and an applied red bloc with gilt lettering. Measures 10.5" x 14". Runs 96pp. Overall wear to exterior, fading and staining to endpapers, else near fine; (4) 20th Century Fox internal correspondence periodical, "Action", issues for nearly the entire year of 1953. Each periodical contains the studio's monthly news, photo-illustrated with black and white photos of studio personnel and stars. Issues contain several images of Marilyn Monroe, two of which are quite rare and mention production of her film "How to Marry a Millionaire", released that year. Contains the complete issues for January, February, March, May, June, August, September, October and December. Custom bound in brown faux-leather boards with gilt lettering. Measures 9" x 12". Near fine; (5) 20th Century Fox internal correspondence periodical, "Action", for the entire year of 1951. Exactly like the bound volumes from 1953 and also near fine. Accompanied by one of Zanuck's own custom bookplates in green and black, measuring 4" x 5.5" in good condition.
