Cole in New York is typed on U.N. letterhead and reads in part, ''...In reply to your letter...in which you ask me to inscribe a few words in your copy of 'Salerno', I shall be glad to do so, if you will kindly send the book to me at 2 Park Avenue, New York 16, New York. [signed] ''M.B. Ridgway''. Single page letter measures approximately 8.5'' x 11''. Very good.
