Satirical cartoonist Robert Crumb handwritten, signed manuscript page and original art, both in pencil. Handwritten manuscript page is entitled ''Sandra's Diary'' and pencil drawing to verso is entitled ''Laura Hope Crews, 1906''. Crews was an early 20th century actress most famous for her role as Aunt Pittypat in ''Gone with the Wind.'' Here, Crumb draws a young Crews in a hat. Manuscript page is likely a transcription of his sister Sandra's diary, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship. Reads in full: ''Sandra's Diary / With Notes by R. Crumb / January 1, 1962 / I'm about to make another vain attempt to write a diary. How long this kick will last I don't know, but I just got a passion to write. I'm starting a clean slate - 1962. Believe me, when I say 'clean', I don't mean morally or wholesomely. I'm out to get all the experiences out of life that I can so that I'm able to place myself in the position of others. You never really understand anything unless you've lived it. I consider anything that happens to me, be it fortunate or otherwise, worthwhile if it taught me a lesson. Anyway, I hope I learn as much this year as I did last year. The latter half was especially eventful. Here's just a short summer of what happened to me in '61. January - at the time I was crazy about flipper.* (Note: Phil Newton - Jackie's brother.) He had asked to me Holy Cross's first big dance, which was coming up in February. The end of the month was taken up mostly in preparation for the affair. My social life consisted only of Jackie and Flipper an my brother. But it was fun. February - I made my debut into Dover society the night of Mardi Gras. I didn't think I'd ever have so much fun. There I met Marty Kiemen and made my first date with Joe Hunter. I dated Marty a lot afterwards, but never liked him much. It was also a month for basketball games and the hi-de-ho with Joe, Mike and Maxon. I was developing into an avid Bobb Darin fan too. March - I stopped dating Marty. He thought I went out with him just to make Flipper jealous. I wasn't too broken up over it. I went to the Explorer's Ball.'' Lined sheet has been removed from a notebook and measures 6.75'' x 8.5''. Minor toning and slightly uneven left edge, else near fine.
