Chair upon which Napoleon Bonaparte sat during his last days as Emperor at the time of the Battle of Waterloo, while staying at a private residence in the Netherlands. Wooden chair with woven seat is accompanied by an LOA in French from 1921, identifying the chair's owner as Pauline Cambier from Courcelles in the Belgian province of Hainaut, whose father bequeathed her the chair after it was used in his home by Napoleon. Notarized LOA translates in full, "The undersigned states and certifies with entire lucidity that they have very often and for many years heard Pauline Cambier, Joseph Lequex's spouse say that she had come from Courcelles bringing with her a chair that had been given to her by her father, on which Napoleon had rested while staying at his home in 1815 for the Battle of Waterloo. She had always kept it with greatest care. The said chair is presently owned by Mr. Henry Hecq-Andre at Fontaine l'Eveque. [signed] Elise Neve [Mother Superior] / Wattier J…" One wooden spindle is missing from chair back, else near fine given age. With provenance from University Archives.
