Princess Diana velvet evening gown, worn for private entertaining circa 1985. With original ''Victor Edelstein / London'' label, gown was designed as a part of his winter 1985 collection. Long-sleeve emerald-colored velvet gown is inspired by the fashion sensibility of 1940's England. Handmade by Edelstein, who adorned the back and sleeves of the gown with large, faceted beaded black buttons he appropriated from a Victorian-era cape that he reportedly found in a Paris antiques market. Shoulders are padded and gown is designed to hug Lady Di's lithe figure, with ruched gathering to front midriff and rear hips to create curves. Lower portion of gown is cut slim with a slight train. Measures 34'' bust x 24'' waist. Near fine condition. With provenance from Christie's.
