Iconic couture gown worn by Madonna for a December 1986 photo spread in LIFE magazine following the release of Madonna's hit album that year, ''True Blue.'' LIFE Magazine featured eight images of a platinum-blonde Madonna shot by famed fashion photographer Bruce Weber, one of which depicted her in this gown. Chosen to mimic the Marilyn Monroe ''ballerina sitting'' in 1954 that portrayed Marilyn in a white ballerina-type dress, Madonna here portrayed her version of the legendary Marilyn by wearing a similar ballerina dress in black. The photo spread also coincided with the release of Madonna's 1986 album, ''True Blue'' with three singles that shot up to number-one on the charts. Organza bouffant strapless gown has intricate bead-work and metallic ''soutache'' trimming. Top of strapless gown has a fitted bodice, and skirt has three layers, two organza and a top layer made of taffeta. ''Gene London and Associates'' tag remains intact, from the well-known entertainment collection. Two 4'' portions of fabric are separating from zipper along back, and a third portion of the fabric has ripped from the zipper creating a 4.5'' tear, though can be repaired. Also includes an original 8'' x 10'' half-matte photo of Madonna posing in the gown with a ''Bruce Weber / Non Archival Print'' copyright stamp to verso, given by Weber to costumer Gene London, who loaned the dress. A spectacular gown from a memorable flashpoint in Madonna's ever evolving career. With a COA from Gene London.
