Complete set of 14 medals commemorating the manned lunar missions, from Apollo 11 to Apollo 17. Collection includes two silver medals for each mission (one larger at 2'' in diameter, the other 1.25''). All medals are marked ''999.9'' and depict portraits of the crew members on the front. The versos show mission insignia, except for Apollo XI and XII which feature a design of the astronauts on the Moon and the Latin phrase ''Per Aspera Ad Astra'' (''Through hardships to the stars''). Each set is protected in a lucite case measuring 4'' x 6'', with the case depicting the mission date and number along matting. Lot also includes two additional lucite-encased sets, the first a silver medal depicting the ''First Man on the Moon'' 10-cent stamp, with the actual stamp beside it. Matte reads: ''Apollo XI / July 20, 1969.'' The second case houses two 8-cent ''Decade of Achievement'' stamps, as well as a silver medal depicting the stamps. Matte reads: ''10 Years in Space / 1962-1972.'' Collection is near fine.
