Brilliant Emmy Award, presented at the 1984-1985 Sports Emmy Awards ceremony to ''Summer Olympics'' engineering supervisor Frances B. Gertler. Los Angeles was the host city for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, opened by California native and then President Ronald Reagan. The very first Sports Emmy Award was issued in 1950 as part of a regular Emmy ceremony, though the field of sports coverage earned an Emmy ceremony all its own in 1979, four years after Gertler became the first full-time network audio engineer in the United States. The iconic winged woman holding an atom stands on the slightly convex, grid-lined surface of a round metal base, plated in 18-karat gold. The base's flat perimeter reads ''The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences''. Front section is engraved with 7 lines naming the award, its category and recipient: ''1984-1985 Sports Emmy Awards / Honors / Frances B. Gertler / Engineering Supervisor / 'Summer Olympics' / ABC / Outstanding Individual Achievement''. Measures 15.5'' in total height with a 7.5'' diameter base. Weighs 5 lbs., 9 oz. Emmy copyright sticker adheres to black felt bottom and is partially legible. Nearly indiscernible break at ankles of figure has been expertly repaired, else fine.
