Then we saw him step in on the mat! We looked! And we saw him! The Cat in the Hat!...'' Runs 61pp., bound in pictorial boards measuring 6.75'' x 9.25''. Prior owner's name is written in pencil with two additional pencil lines upon verso of the front free-endaper and a tiny white circular flaw to the ink on the rear free endpaper. Faint stain to upper outer corner of pages 23-24 and small stain to bottom of page 39. Very light wear to board edges, else near fine. Dustjacket bears a Marshall Field & Company price tag to the rear flap and shows minor creasing and edge wear, else near fine. A scarce first printing of a treasure in children's literature.
