''Sports Illustrated'' Sportsman of the Year trophy awarded to Arthur Ashe in 1992. The award was bestowed on Ashe in the final year of his life. Plaque bears the magazine's logo and reads, ''Sportsman / of the Year / 1992 / Arthur Ashe / For Symbolizing in Character and Performance / The Ideals of Sportsmanship''. Impressive and coveted trophy replicates the iconic black-figure amphoras of antiquity. Vase is mounted to a 7'' square base to an overall height of 18.5''. Scattered nicks and chips, and loosening of vase to base, else near fine. Comes housed in carrying case with lock and key closure. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
