Metal plate mounted to a wooden plaque reads in full: ''Ohio Wesleyan University / proudly presents / The Branch Rickey Award / to / ARTHUR ASHE / September 29, 1988 / Delaware, Ohio / Branch Rickey, a 1904 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, was a courageous and / ethical individual whose belief in equality made him a pioneer in the fight for civil rights. / In 1947, as president and general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, he integrated professional baseball by signing Jackie Robinson to a major league contract. The / Branch Rickey Award is given in recognition of exceptional personal contribution and / commitment to the cause of equal opportunity and full human rights for all persons.'' The names of the Award Selection Committee members are listed at the bottom. Metal Decor brand award measures 14'' x 11''.
