WWII Pacific theatre General signs ''Joseph W. Stilwell'' to a 1943 typed letter on ''Office of the Commanding General / China Burma India'' stationery. He thanks General Mendelson for sending cigars, asserting, ''...the entire four hundred fifty inches of superior smokes...will be enjoyed...'' Letter is tipped into his memoir ''The Stilwell Papers'' published in 1948. Half-title is signed ''Mendelson''. A letter from the publisher to Mendelson is also tipped into this first edition. Stilwell letter is 7.75'' x 10.5''. Very good condition. Rare.
