Albert Speer typed letter signed ''Albert Speer''. The ''Nazi who said sorry'' writes in German to his acquaintance Elaine Lincoln in Chicago on his personal stationery. Nearly a decade after Speer's release from Spandau prison, he dates his letter 19 April 1975 and writes, ''...It's in vain to ponder over American past and missed opportunities. I believe everything will be fine if only one persistent person will work on it, although I'm not sure if President Ford will find that strength or power. My wife and I are better than before, because we started to spend more time together, since I finally handed in the manuscript for the new book...I am very excited to hear what you say about the new book, however it will only be published next year in America (by McMillan). Nowadays we often go on vacation in the old mountain village for ten days from where we often started our Alpine ski tours in the fifties. Then we went to the Salzburger Festspielen of Karajan and on Pentecost we travel again to Salzburg and Vienna...I still feel tired and overwrought...I hope that you are well and that your sorrows don't overwhelm you. Best wishes to your family also...'' 1pp. on thin paper measures 8.25'' x 11.5''. Creasing, else near fine. Accompanied by full translation.
