Broadside from the Third English Civil War announcing the creation of a new day of fasting and humiliation. Such days were designated under King Charles, of which the broadside says: ''...the observation of the said Monethly [sic] Fast hath been...in most places of this Commonwealth wholly neglected...'' Dated 23 April 1649, it slates the new day of self-sacrifice for 17 May 1649. Parliament abolished the monarchy and had King Charles executed in January of 1649. Britain's throne-less era, the Interregnum, lasted until 1660 when Charles II ascended to King. Broadside printed by Edward Husband. Measures 11.5'' x 20.5''. Foxing, toning, creasing and separation along fold lines with some tape repair to verso. Mounted to paper. In good to very good condition.
