Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed as a General in Malta during WWII, also with envelope signed. While directing the invasion of Sicily, he takes a moment to write to his wife, Mamie on 11 July 1943. The letter reads: ''Darling - The first part of the waiting is over - the plan went off satisfactorily in its initial stages. Now there's more anxious moments as we try to get ourselves collected and ready to do something more. I'll be taking a look myself, tomorrow...I'm certainly far from the end of a mail route...This morning I visited a number of air fields. It's a curious thing; morale is always high in a unit that is in contact with the enemy - fighting him every day. This morning I saw a squadron that had not run into a Hun airplane in days. They were completely fed up with flying for hours and not getting a fight. All they wanted to know was WHERE to find an enemy! I just discovered that this is Sunday. Days of the week mean nothing to me, but I do remember, ordinarily, the day of the month. Sometimes though, I find myself wondering what month it is!...I'm much afraid that [son] Johnny's anniversary may have to go unnoticed as far as I'm concerned. But I will try to send him a cable. In any event be sure to tell him that now that he is of voting age I will stand in awe of him, and will learn to say 'sir'...you're the grandest person in the world, and I love you all the time. Also I miss you so much I'd like to start yelling aloud!...Loads of love, always. / Your Ike''. 3pp. letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Toning and creasing, else near fine. With original envelope postmarked 11 July 1943, signed ''Dwight D Eisenhower''. He hand-annotates his title ''C-in-C''.
