Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed as Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces, with original mailing envelope also signed. Eisenhower takes a few moments away from commanding Operation Overlord to write to his wife, Mamie. He dates his letter 16 March [1944]. It reads: ''Darling - I'm awaiting an appointment - my visitor should be here in a few minutes. The day will be a busy one but not so bad as yesterday, when I started a conference at 10:00 a.m., which lasted until 6:30 p.m. Some talk!!! But the very highest personages of the realm were present...For the life of me I can't see why [son] John remains in such a storm convoy 'branch'. It doesn't make that much difference. He's chosen the F.A. for prelim. instruction, so why doesn't he stick to it? I advised him to take it; maybe that's the reason he is against it half the time.???? I'm sorry dear, but I must run along. I never get to write you a decent letter. But I do love you - & how I miss you. Wait until this war is won!!!!! Love - / your Ike''. Includes original mailing envelope signed ''Dwight D Eisenhower'' and postmarked 17 May 1944. 2pp. letter measures 7.25'' x 9''. Creasing, else near fine.
