Large half-plate ambrotype of Niagara Falls, owned by Civil War General John Homer Howe, who distinguished himself at Vicksburg. Unique ambrotype shows a crowd of Niagara Falls tourists, circa 1865, the men all clad in top hats and the women in Victorian hats and bonnets. Matted portion measures 5.5'' x 4.25'', encased to an overall size of 6'' x 4.75'', with decorative foliage design in relief to outer shell. Some chipping to edges of paperboard case and spots of wear to mat. Photo image itself is in fine condition.
