Receipt signed by Kiyoshi Tanimoto, the peace activist and Hiroshima survivor who worked tirelessly to help the ''Hiroshima Maidens'', a group of school age girls who were seriously disfigured from the atomic bomb blast. Tanimoto signs a receipt for a donation to the Hiroshima Peace Center Foundation, writing in part, ''Mar 26, 1953 / Received $52.06 as a designated donation for peace project in Hiroshima. / Kiyoshi Tanimoto director...Hiroshima, Japan''. In his plight to help the Hiroshima girls, Tanimoto went on an extensive speaking tour in the United States, and appeared on the show ''This Is Your Life'' in 1951, where he and his family were uncomfortably introduced to the pilot of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. Receipt measures 7.5'' x 6.875''. Folds, else near fine. Accompanied by other documents from the Foundation, including a Christmas card.
