John Steinbeck signed first edition of ''East of Eden'' in its original glassine dust jacket and slipcase. New York: Viking Press, 1952. One of just 1,500 first edition copies signed by the author, 750 of which were intended for private distribution. Signed, ''John Steinbeck'' in blue ink to limitation page. Bound in publisher's green cloth boards with titles stamped in gilt on the front board and spine, housed in original faux wood-grain slipcase. Measures 6.75'' x 9.5''. Glassine jacket is chipped at head of spine, and slipcase is lightly chipped with a few abrasions, overall very good condition for both. Book is in exceptional, near fine condition.
