Lot of three autograph letters signed by John Gotti, written from 1996-2000 when he was serving time in prison for crimes committed as boss of the Gambino crime family. All letters are written inside cards, addressed to his wife's sister, Marylou DiGiorgio, and usually signed ''Johnny!'' All are additionally signed on the return address panel of the envelopes, ''Gotti'' along with his prison number.
In the first letter, postmarked 27 September 1996, approximately two months after he was severely beaten by a fellow inmate, Gotti writes in part, ''...As for me, I feel great!...with all the health problems that we've been hit with, writing is the least that everyone has on their mind...I was surprised to read that they replaced you at the school - so much for loyalty...Getting to my dental situation, still no work done - also no word on the motion for a new trial. As for me being moved to a place where I'll be allowed more visits and visitors in the near future - it seems very possible...Love, Johnny!''
In another letter, postmarked July 1999, Gotti writes in part, ''...My visit with Johnny was a bit hectic - as I had other visitors - But I thought what little visit we had was great. Johnny caught me up with some family news - and I brought him up to speed with my pending legal nonsense, and this wonderful resort. And as always we spoke about the great times we had...As for me, I feel fine. With the change of weather - and my motion for a new trial completed and ready for presentation - I should be able to catch upon on some of the letter writing that I've neglected...I hope you're well - and happy! Love, Johnny''. Cards measure approximately 7.125'' x 5''. Tears to envelopes, only one slightly affecting the top of Gotti's signature, overall in very good plus condition.
