Jean-Michel Basquiat signed and numbered first edition of ''Drawings'', penned in blue ink opposite a photograph of the young artist taken in 1982 by James van der Zee. Book features 32 colored plates of Basquiat's artwork completed during the winter of 1982-83, and is extraordinarily rare as signed. Even though Basquiat numbered this book in a limited edition of 1,000, it's believed that the number of signed copies are far fewer, and rarely appear on the market.
Zurich: Edition Gallery Bruno Bischofberger and New York: Mary Boone Gallery, 1985 published jointly. Bound in publisher's grey cloth boards with black titling, and housed in illustrated dust jacket. Large first edition measures 14'' x 10.5''. Minor wear to both book and jacket, with small closed tear repaired on verso of jacket. Well preserved in near fine condition. With provenance from the Manhattan Rare Book Company.
