Retained copy of the letter to James Dean from his agent Jane Deacy, dated 30 April 1954 shortly after Dean moved to Los Angeles to film ''East of Eden''. In this affectionate letter, Deacy worries about her young client and tells him he has a ''great future.'' Letter reads in part, ''I was so pleased to finally hear from you. It had been such a long time and I was real worried...I must say I was shocked to find you had spent so much money in such a short time especially when you are living with you[r] father...I don't like to think of you being unhappy...I am very pleased you have given up cigarettes and drinking and have found a good dentist. But I am sorry that you have had such a time with your health. Perhaps going to California was very good for you if only to make you realize that you have to take care of your health. / We miss you very much around here. We love you too and will be glad when you get back. / Please take care of yourself, Jimmy and don't get so despondent, as you have a real great future ahead of you...Love and Kisses, / Jane Deacy''.
