First edition, first printing of James Fenimore Cooper's, ''Last of the Mohicans''. Philadelphia: H.C. Carey & I. Lea, 1826. Two volumes in original boards, with all first printing points present: In volume I, pagination present on page 71, page 89 mis-numbered 93, chapter XVI mis-numbered XIV; in volume II, state A of the copyright notice reading ''a Book''. This copy has the final ''i'' present on page vii in volume I; some first printings have the ''i'' dropped and the sequence hasn't been determined. Collation is complete with volume I: [i-xii], [1]-282, [blank]; volume II: [i-iv], [1]-289, [blank]. Bound in original gray boards, rebacked with portions of the original or near contemporary printed spine labels laid down. General wear with foxing to volume I. Heavy dampstaining to volume II but with no loss of text, light worm damage to final blanks and closed tears to title page. Overall, a good plus copy, extremely rare in original boards. Housed in a custom clamshell box.
