J. Edgar Hoover signed 6.5'' x 8'' matte photo affixed to a 9'' x 11'' mat board. The FBI Director signs on the mat, ''To Dan O. Stephens / In appreciation of your valued services / J. Edgar Hoover / 5.21.59''. Stephens was a longtime FBI employee. In the late 1950's, Hoover's zealous hunt for communists was in full swing. Photographer Max Munn Autrey, an early Hollywood studio photographer, was well known for his glamour shots of movie stars. Minor toning to mat and chipping to photo, else near fine.
