Ivan Turgenev autograph letter signed from 1871, during the time he was working on his semi-autobiographical novel ''Torrents of Spring''. Turgenev mentions returning to his homeland of Russia in this letter to his friend, the French socialite Valentine Delessert. Datelined from London on 2 February 1871, letter translated from French reads, ''...I am writing to you while I can. I do not have to tell you how often and with what sorrowful interest I have thought of you. Grant me a couple words in response - about you, about your family. I am about to depart for Russia. But your note would still find me here. I will come to Paris at the end of April. I hope that by that time we will have peace and we will be able to speak of these terrible 'tempi passati' [times passed]. You will probably have many letters to write - but I only ask for two words. / In the meantime, I kiss your hands tenderly, and ask you to trust in my unwavering affection. / Iv. Turgenev.'' Two page letter on a single sheet of 5'' x 8'' paper. Folds and uneven left edge, otherwise near fine condition.
