Harper Lee autograph letter signed, dated 29 December 2000, from Monroeville, Alabama on her personal monogrammed stationery. Letter, in blue ink, reads in full: ''Dear Don: Yet once more you enrich me with a gift that is most meaningful to me. This year it is the stunning COMMON THREADS which is surely one of the great photograph assemblages in existence. Incredible! I have followed Kathryn Tucker Wyndham's [sic] career through the years, watching it grow from a tentative-seeming venture into one of solid professional assurance. I so enjoy her reminisces because they ring as clear as an evening bell. I try not to miss her Public Radio talks -- in Monroeville we can only get NPR on our car radios! If the NYC station carries her, I don't know it. Thank you, and thank you again for your great generosity. COMMON THREADS, of course, is the book that made out Christmas. This year, thank God, no disasters. It was a happy one, as I hope yours was. Fondly, Nelle Harper Lee''. Card, measuring 6.25'' x 4.5'', has text on front and verso, with gilt ''NHL'' initials at top. Includes original postmarked envelope with a ''Lee'' signature accompanying the return address. Near fine.
