Golda Meir typed letter signed, dated 16 May 1926 shortly after moving to then Palestine as a young Zionist leader. Writing from Tel Aviv to the Hapoel HaTzair movement - a Jewish labor movement that encouraged workers to emigrate to Eretz Israel, Meir expresses her frustration over the pause in immigration. Translated from Hebrew, she writes in part, ''The cessation of immigration raises concerns in our hearts...The group was formed for the purpose of continuous immigration, and with its halt, the group's path has been narrowed...Opening the gates of the Land for us is an urgent matter.'' Meir then writes of establishing a large farm near Nes Ziona to employ 120-150 women workers, and also updates her colleagues on the status of overseas work to bring more Jewish people to Eretz Israel.
Signed by Meir, ''Golda Meirson'', the name she used in her youth, and countersigned by her colleague Elisheva Kaplan, wife of future Prime Minister Levi Eshkol. Two page letter on two sheets measures 9'' x 11.5''. On fragile two-hole punched paper that is chipped along margins with minor paper loss, only affecting a few words of text. Good condition. A scarce letter by Meir as a young Zionist and labor leader regarding Jewish migration to Israel.
