Society of Cincinnati document signed by George Washington, conferring membership in the exclusive Society available only to Revolutionary War officers and their eldest male heirs. Washington here confers membership to William Adams. Document is dated 31 October 1785, signed ''Go: Washington'' as President of the Society, countersigned by Henry Knox, who would later serve as Secretary of War under Washington. Vellum document measures approximately 15.75'' x 14'' with decorative vignettes including the Society of Cincinnati seal. Matted and framed to a size of 22'' x 207.5''. Some paper loss, especially to lower left, and dampstaining. Not examined out of frame, but appearing in fair to good condition, with a large and prominent signature by Washington. Society of Cincinnati documents are some of the most coveted manuscripts signed by Washington.
