Letter from Kiyoshi Tanimoto, director of the Hiroshima Peace Center Foundation regarding the ''Keloid Girls'', or ''Hiroshima Maidens'', a group of school age girls who were seriously disfigured from the atomic bomb blast. Titled ''Let's Give Support to the Keloid-Girls'', letter describes how 600 girls were lined up outside their school the day of the bombing, but only 30 survived the blast. Letter reads in part, ''...How happy were the parents of the 30 surviving girls to be able to rescue their daughters...At first their eyes and noses were hidden under the burns and although the appearance of their faces cannot be expressed exactly in words, resembled something like a black roughened pumpkin...one could not help but sympathize and could not bear to look twice at the drawn up, twitched, distorted faces...'' Tanimoto then writes how some of the girls have been helped with medical care. Four page letter measures 8.375'' x 11.75'', stapled at top left. Accompanied by original envelope and also a Christmas card from the Foundation, with an illustration of Mt. Fuji. Folds, else near fine.
