Theodore Rousseau autograph note signed. The French artist who was periodically excluded from the Paris Salon painted such notable works as ''The Chestnut Avenue,'' ''The Marsh in the Landes'' and his masterpiece, ''The Edge of the Forest.'' Upon a 7.5'' x 3.25'' slip, he pens a note in French: ''I authorize Ms. Houllaye to make engravings of my exhibition of paintings. Th. Rousseau / 1 August 1857''. Creasing and light staining to trimmed slip. In very good condition.
