Franklin D. Roosevelt autograph letter signed, dated only ''Sunday'' from Hyde Park, but clearly 30 December 1928 based on the content, as FDR prepares for his New York gubernatorial inauguration on 1 January 1929. Roosevelt writes to Helena Mahoney, his personal physical therapist who was instrumental in helping FDR transition to life post-polio, on his personal ''Democratic National Committee'' letterhead. FDR delivered the Presidential nominating speech for Democratic nominee Al Smith earlier that summer; in fact, Helena Mahoney famously prepared Roosevelt to give the speech without crutches, an important milestone in his political career.

Letter reads in full, ''Dear Hony - Just a line of New Year's greetings - I wish much you could be in Albany on Tuesday - All goes well & the first rush is over - I'm so glad to hear from Dr. H.[ubbard] that all goes well & that so many stayed for Xmas. I love that bill fold - [?] so many thanks - It is a triumph of good workmanship & a great credit to our [?] industry - As ever / FDR''. Two page letter measures 8.5'' x 11'' on single sheet. Creasing and chips at edges, overall in very good plus condition, with a large ''FDR'' signature.
