First edition of William Thackeray's ''Vanity Fair: A Novel Without a Hero''. London: Bradbury and Evans, 1848. With all first printing points: the drop-head title in rustic lettering to p. 1; the ''Marquis of Steyne'' woodcut on p. 336 (later suppressed); and ''Mr. Pitt'' for ''Sir Pitt'' on p. 453. Rebound in emerald green full leather boards with five raised bands on spine, and marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Beautifully illustrated throughout plus 38 plates including frontispiece and title page. A near fine copy with sunning to spine and foxing to title page and endpapers.
