Boston: Jewett & Co.; Cleveland: Jewett, Proctor & Worthington, 1853. Following the enormous success of ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' a year prior, Stowe published this book, documenting hundreds of actual cases of slavery that supported the stories in her novel. It also includes Stowe's own views on slavery. Book runs 262pp. and measures 6.375'' x 9.5''. Front wrapper present but torn off. Chipping to wrappers, foxing and moderate wear throughout. Overall very good condition. Housed in clamshell case and quarter-leather custom slipcase with gilt lettering to spine. An essential complement to Stowe's important pre-Civil War novel.
