First edition, first printing of the science fiction classic ''Dune'' by Frank Herbert, in its original first printing dust jacket with $5.95 price intact. Philadelphia: Chilton Books, 1965. Lot includes a letter signed by Herbert, dated 24 June 1970 while he worked at the ''Seattle Post Intelligencer'', reading in part, ''...there will be at least one more book in the 'Dune' series...I prefer not to discuss the content of published works, as I feel these should stand by themselves and not need additional interpretations from me...'' Book is bound in publisher's light blue cloth with white lettering to spine. Measures 6.25'' x 9.25''. Lightly rubbed cloth with softly bumped corners. Owner's name and address to front free endpaper and name only to upper margin of page 100. Very good condition. First printing jacket has publisher's imprint in four lines at the bottom of the rear flap; jacket is restored with areas of filling and color-matching. Offsetting to edges and small stains along bottom edge of rear panel. Overall a very good copy of this science fiction classic.
