Large piece of fabric from Amelia Earhart's plane, the Lockheed Vega 5B, used by Earhart to make her groundbreaking solo transatlantic flight on 20-21 May 1932. Earhart was the first woman to perform this feat, with this large 2.125'' x 2.25'' red swatch attesting to the accomplishment; this same Vega 5B also transported Earhart across the United States on 24-25 August 1932 when she became the first woman to accomplish that milestone. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum acquired Earhart's Vega 5B in 1966 and then restored the plane in the 1970s, selling some of the original fabric swatches in this format, affixed to presentations on flexible card stock. Presentation measures 15'' x 20'', framed to a size of 19.5'' x 23.5''. Nicks to frame. Presentation itself is near fine.
