Eugene V. Debs handwritten signed letter, composed on 28 April 1926, six months before his passing. Debs writes to George S. Viereck, a fellow socialist who would go on to support Adolf Hitler's purported National Socialist Party. Debs writes on Hotel Breslin stationery from his home in Terre Haute, Indiana in part, ''It was with the deepest regret that I again missed you in New York. It would have been a great pleasure indeed to Mrs. Debs and myself to meet you and Mrs. Viereck, but...I had to leave for home soon after landing from Bermuda. I have been so anxious to see you, to take you by the hand and tell you in person how sincerely I regard you and how much I appreciate your friendship...But I am sure the fates will not always conspire against us, and some good day, not far distant I hope, we shall walk into each others' arms and make up for lost time. / The marked copy of the Monthly with your fine article has been received so I need not say how very much I appreciate your continued kindness or consideration...Eugene V. Debs''. Two page letter on a single sheet measures 8.5'' x 11''. Fold and light creasing, else near fine.
