Portrait of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor personally owned by the Duke himself. Black and white photo was taken by noted photographer Hugh Cecil. Portrait shows a thoughtful, even melancholy Edward in three-quarter length as he gazes off-camera. This was likely taken around the time Edward VIII as King abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, the American socialite. Matte photo is matted and framed in a Munn gilt frame with cutout in the back to reveal a Hugh Cecil label numbered ''7825 E'' on the photo verso. Measures 11.75'' x 13.5''. Near fine condition. With provenance and original applied stickers from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor auction, held by Sotheby's, New York, 11-19 September 1997.
