Collection of items relating to the Hindenburg airship, including a shaving kit recovered from the 6 May 1937 Hindenburg Disaster, which occurred as the famous commercial transatlantic airship caught fire, crashing and burning during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Lot includes: (1) a gentleman's travel razor housed in original metal case, with spare blades. Case measures 3.25'' x 2'' x 1.25'' with charring as it was recovered from the wreckage by a firefighter according to Bonham's. (2) Printed manuscript written and signed in facsimile by frequent airship traveler A.E. Jessurun, headed ''News Letter No. 2. / Flying Trip / What a Trip! What a Trip!'' Document details his impressive air trip that commenced on 30 April 1936 in Chicago, and continued on Chicago-San Francisco-Los Angeles-Newark-Lakehurst and then, aboard the ''Hindenburg,'' to Frankfort, Germany, arriving on 13 May 1936. He then returned to the U.S. successfully on 20 May 1936. Jessurun details his experiences on his flights aboard the ''Hindenburg,'' including a conversation with Dr. Hugo Eckener, commander of the flight, and also details a prophetic incident as the ''Hindenburg'' returned to Lakehurst, ''...for a moment I experienced the sensation of falling through space, when as abruptly everything seemed righted and we were flying along smoothly. Upon inquiring, I found that one of the men in the Control Room had accidentally pulled the wrong lever causing the Airship to go down, but had discovered his error immediately. The passengers remained very calm, and the Captain assured them there was no danger...'' 10pp. document measures 8.5'' x 11'' with some dampstaining to last four pages, and a loose last page. (3) A second printed manuscript signed ''A.E. Jessurun'' in ink on a 5.5'' x 3.25'' card. Dated 30 April 1936, document is titled ''Flying Trip'' and reads in part, ''I leave this afternoon by Airplane for San Francisco to New York and from Lakehurst, New Jersey I will fly on the Graf Zeppelin Hindenburg to Frankfurt, Germany remaining there one and one half days and then fly on the Hindenburg to Lakehurst, New Jersey and fly back to Chicago...'' (4) A postcard depicting ''Sleeping Cabin in the Airship 'Hindenburg''', addressed to a Mrs. Van Eiff, Spofford, and postmarked 11 August 1936 aboard the Hindenburg. Overall, very good condition.
